Transformer & Switchgear Transport
Grid, renewable and data center projects need heavy electrical gear on site, undamaged and on time. We arrange the right deck, securement and permits for transformers, switchgear and other high-value electrical equipment.
High-value electrical gear deserves extra care
A transformer or switchgear lineup can be one of the most expensive items on a project, and replacements can take a long time to build. We plan each move around the equipment's weight, center of gravity, tie-down points and the manufacturer's handling requirements.
How we handle it
- Trailer matched to height and weight: step deck, double drop, RGN or multi-axle.
- Securement planned around lifting lugs and tie-down points, plus tarping or shrink-wrap for weather protection when needed.
- Permits and escorts arranged for oversize units.
- Delivery appointments coordinated with the site crane or rigging crew.
- Optional add-on cargo coverage for high-value units, arranged per shipment through Armstrong Transport Group.
Projects we support
Utility substations, solar and wind projects, battery storage sites, data centers, industrial plants and manufacturer-to-site moves from switchgear and transformer factories across the country.

Transformers & Switchgear FAQ
Can you protect switchgear from weather in transit?
Yes. We can book Conestoga trailers or tarped step decks, or plan for factory shrink-wrap, depending on the size of the unit and the manufacturer's requirements.
Is extra cargo coverage available for expensive equipment?
Yes. Optional add-on cargo coverage, such as all-risk or gap coverage, can be quoted per shipment through Armstrong Transport Group. Ask when you request your quote.
Do you coordinate with the crane crew at delivery?
Yes. We confirm the delivery appointment and offloading plan with the site so the truck and crane arrive on the same schedule.
